Snorkel with the Dolphins
Can anybody snorkel with the dolphins?
If you are a confident swimmer between the ages of 10-88 years old, you can enjoy this special experience. The sessions are conducted in guided groups of up to three persons with one guide for the whole group.
Is equipment provided?
Everyone wears a mask, snorkel, fins, and wetsuit. It is important that you have used a snorkel and mask before, as there is very little time to learn.
How long is the session?
The session lasts one hour. Half an hour is devoted to choosing and fitting equipment, signing the medical statement and a briefing. After the briefing, half an hour will be spent in the water.
Where does the snorkeling session take place?
Snorkeling takes place in the sea, where your group will swim out not far from the shore, but to deep water (14 meters or 45 feet deep) and watch the dolphins as well as a big variety of fish and corals.
What will the dolphins be doing?
During your visit with the dolphins in the sea, you will be observing them in their natural habitat, hunting, playing, mating and teaching the younger ones. When a dolphin approaches us, it does so of its own free will. We respect this approach by not touching, chasing or feeding them.
Are there any limitations to participating in the activity?
For your own safety, it is important that we will be notified if you suffer from the following: ear problems, respiratory problems (e.g. asthma, sinus and bronchitis), heart problems, high/low blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes or claustrophobia. If you have had recent surgery or illness, have open wounds, take medication, or suffer from other medical problems or limitations we must be notified. Pregnant women are not allowed to swim with the dolphins.
Can I use an underwater camera during the activity?
The dolphins and their well being have first priority; therefore the only persons that enter the water with a camera is an employee of the Dolphin Reef photography department who has training, knowledge about the behavioral patterns of the dolphins and who has the ability to anticipate behavior changes. Our photographers never use a flash and they receive regular updates and instructions in order to adapt their approach according to the current situation in the water. Therefore we are sorry, but a personal camera in the water is not allowed!
A child under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21.
Each participant is required to sign a medical declaration at the site before participating in the activity. All participants under the age of 18 need the medical and liability declaration to be signed by a parent/guardian. To view the medical statement click here.
